Losses in Local Education and Leisure and Hospitality – Oregon Employment Dept. release – Coos County total payroll employment fell by 60 jobs in December 2022. Local government education saw the largest decline, down by 70 over the month. Leisure and hospitality employment fell by 40 jobs and professional and business services lost 20. Industries with estimated job gains included manufacturing, which was up by 50. Both wood and food product manufacturing employment increased by 20 jobs. Private education and health services added 30 jobs over the month. Coos County payroll employment rose by 60 jobs over the past year. The largest drops were in professional and business services (-60); transportation, warehousing, and utilities (-40); and food manufacturing (-20). Leisure and hospitality (+50) and manufacturing (+30) had job increases over the year. Local government added 110 jobs over the year with gains in Indian tribal (+40), local government excluding education and tribal (+40), and local education (+30). Curry County payroll employment also fell by 60 jobs in December. Leisure and hospitality shed 60 jobs over the month. Government employment slipped by 10 jobs over the month. Over the past year, Curry County payroll employment fell by 60 jobs. Losses were estimated in leisure and hospitality (-30), manufacturing (-10), and private education and health services (-10). The South Coast area is still down 1,030 payroll jobs from the total in December 2019.
